Hello guys. It's raining hard right now! :) It has been months since it rained so I'm pretty excited because hopefully, the weather would be much cooler and more comfortable for me to do something more productive. :) Today, I have one of my favorite things to review, lipsticks. This is going to be a three-part series featuring e.l.f. Studio Matte Lip Color from a recent e.l.f. haul a few weeks ago. I have three colors:
Cranberry, Coral and Praline. I'm reviewing first the color "Praline" for today.
I choose this color because I wanted a darker, browner nude lipstick. The shade pretty much meets my expectation. Praline is a medium, brown neutral beige with a satin finish. It's similar to MAC's Velvet Teddy, only more brown and less matte. I know elf says it's "Matte" but this lipstick isn't. It maintains its satiny finish all day and doesn't dry matte ever.
Pigmentation is excellent, and a single swipe gets you opaque color. On my pigmented lips, the brown is less evident so Praline looks more like a pinky nude-brown on me. The color glided on smoothly across my lips, with minimal tugging. The lipstick felt a bit heavy. Although not totally uncomfortable to wear, you do feel the "weight" of the lipstick.
Longevity is average, staying only around 2-3 hours on my lips, less if I eat. I expected this lipstick to last longer, due to the "matte" claim. But since this is not matte per se, the lasting power that comes with the formula is also gone.
Also to note is that this lipstick contains less product than your average lipstick, only 1.8 grams for $3. So although cheaper than other lipsticks, this does not give you value for money. Wet n Wild's Mega Last lipsticks have 3g of product for only around $2, so you get twice the product for less money. This line also has less shades to select from, compared to Wet n Wild's almost 20 selection.
Pros:
- Brown-nude shade suitable almost everyone
- Smooth, creamy texture
- Formula is not too drying
Cons:
- Does last long
- Contains less product than average
- Limited shade selection
