Hello everyone. After more than a month of hiatus, I am finally back. To start off my birth month, I'm sharing with you a lipstick that I bought from MAC's Lazada flagship store. MAC Maker Maine Mendoza Matte Lipstick @mainedcm is the second collaboration between Maine Mendoza and MAC. For this one, owing to the huge success of Maine's first lipstick, they are releasing both a matte lipstick and a lip glass.
Key Claims and Usage:
- Special-edition lipstick in a vibrant red cool shade.
- Creamy matte finish.
- Apply directly to lips from the lipstick bullet or use a 316S brush for more precision.

MAC Maker Maine Mendoza Matte Lipstick @mainedcm is described as a "vibrant cool red shade with a matte finish." Personally, I don't think that the color is a true red. The color is darker, almost bordering to vampy. Considering that Maine Mendoza is known to wear MAC Ruby Woo, I expected this lipstick to be of similar red color. While it is not the expected bright red, I still like the shade. You can use this as a stain for a low-key look and apply fully opaque for more impact.

This lipstick may confuse some people though. As stated, it is described as a vibrant cool red but actually looks darker, bordering on being a burgundy red. It is also supposedly a matte finish but actually is not. This feels and looks satiny, with an obvious sheen coming through on the lips. Unlike the matte lipsticks that I have from MAC, the color payoff is also not great. With one layer, I can still see my natural lip color peeking through. I needed 2-3 layers to get full opaque pigmentation.

I would say that this lipstick is not as popular as the first that was released. That one sold out in minutes while this red vampy one is now being offered as free with product purchase. Don't get me wrong, I am always a sucker for any red lipstick. It is the reason why while I am not particularly a fan of Maine Mendoza, I wanted to give this lipstick a go.
FOTD using MAC Maker Maine Mendoza Matte Lipstick @mainedcm |
On the upside, because of the creamier formula and semi-matte finish, this glides effortlessly across my lips. Application is smooth but can be somewhat uneven because you get less pigment in one layer. This lipstick does not dry up my lips but expect also to see some transfer.
Additionally, this lipstick feels comfortable on the lips. It wore well for up to six hours, with no settling and bleeding. It faded somewhat evenly and left a faint pinky-red stain.

Overall, despite the conflicting descriptions, I do find myself reaching for this lipstick more often than I would expect. The rich burgundy red color looks flattering and timeless. The satiny formula feels lightweight and comfortable on the lips. The semi-opaque finish also means that I can choose to build up the color or not. This can be applied fully opaque or just as a sheer stain on the lips.
